Lavender Lemongrass Baby Shower Favors…

Babyshower ChristinaWe were so delighted to meet Christina at a recent Farmer’s Market.  She was new to town and working on hosting a small baby shower for a close friend from Chicago.  Her friend, the Mom-to-Be, loved both Lavender and Lemongrass scents. Christina asked us to put together some favors for the shower for all of the guests in attendance to take home with them.  We were so happy to do so!

We worked with Christina over a period of about two weeks to design just the right favor for her shower.  She ended up choosing a full size Lavender Lemongrass Soap Bar along with a half-size Lavender Lemongrass Bath Salt.Babyshower Christina 2

The shower was being hosted at a restaurant and although the restaurant already had lovely ambiance and decor, Christina still wanted to put a personal touch on the favors and match them to the custom centerpiece she made.  She choose a white and lavender gingham fabric that we use frequently to incorporate in the favors and tie around her basket.  She also placed flowers in complimentary colors on the main table.

Since the deadline for the shower was only a couple of weeks away when Christina contacted us we decided quickly we would have to use a soap scent already in stock.  Since Lavender Lemongrass is one we carry year round it worked out perfectly.

The shower went off without a hitch and Christina let us know the guests were very pleased with their favors.   In in email she told us,

Lavender Lemongrass soap and salts for baby shower packaged         “I was inexperienced in the realm of planning showers and I was so relieved to meet Julie and M. Grace at the Terre Haute Farmer’s Market. Pure GRACE Soap created the perfect product for my baby shower favors, something that made the guests feel really special. They also helped me create an ambiance and centerpiece for the shower, and the event went flawlessly – everything was perfect! My guests were so impressed by her lemongrass lavender soap and bath salts. I am now a loyal fan and follower!”

We really loved working with Christina on her baby shower and thank her for the opportunity!

YOUR GREEN VALLEY: Microbeads found in personal care products damaging to waters

For the past six years Julie Manson has been working to get plastics and chemicals out of her home. She also tries to cook as many from-scratch meals as possible with local food from the Terre Haute Farmers Market and a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) she participates in. During a visit to the Farmers Market last year, her daughter, Madeleine, told her mother she wanted to be like the vendors she saw there and sell something. Julie then went to work trying to find a niche for the two of them to enjoy together.

“Madeleine had chapped lips all winter last year. It got so bad I thought it was going to be an issue at school so we went to the dermatologist. They gave her three different prescriptions. When I looked at the ingredients in the prescription, I said ‘these have to go back.’ I was not going to put that on her mouth. This is when we started thinking we could make our own chap stick and lip gloss, which eventually led us into soaps,” Julie said.

Today, the mother-daughter duo has a full line of natural skin-care products.

Bugs fear M. GRACE…and with good reason…

Bug Be Gone Lotion Stick at Horse Camp June 2014M. GRACE just finished a 3 day Horse Camp at a local college. Having been riding for a little over a year now she knew what to expect but the days were long, hot and buggy.  Luckily before the first day of camp we threw our Bug Be GONE Lotion Stick in her backpack – just in case…

She ended up using the lotion stick each and every day and said it helped tremendously!  She even joked we should get some for the horses.  While we have not personally evaluated the Bug Be GONE lotion stick on horses we have tried it on ourselves and many other folks.  Everyone agrees this product really does a great job at decreasing or eliminating the annoying biting creatures.

It glides on smooth straight from the tube, no messy globs and no sticky spray here.  You don’t even have to rub the product in.  Open the tube, glide it across your arms, legs, neck, anything that is exposed and go enjoy the outdoors.

Bug Be GONE Lotion Stick group

A basket full of bug protection.

Our Bug Be GONE Lotion Stick has a light herbal smell to it – nothing that will make you cringe and nothing to make the person next to you suspect you are wearing it.  In addition to the gentle smell it is also gentle on your skin – no chemicals here!  This product is all natural made up of avocado butter, beeswax, sweet almond oil, meadowform oil, cedarwood essential oil, lavender essential oil, rosemary essential oil, clove leaf essential oil and cinnamon essential oil.

Avocado Butter is a soft butter with a mild scent obtained from the oil of the avocado tree.  It is known to help moisturize and soften rough, dry, and cracked skin.

Beeswax is known to lock in moisture, foster cells, and protect skin from damaging environmental factors. It effectively softens skin and creates a long-lasting protective coating against the elements. It is also a naturally nourishing moisturizer.

Sweet Almond Oil is a pale yellow carrier oil extracted from the sweet almond nut.  It contains Vitamin E which nourishes the skin and helps relieve irritation, inflammation and itching.

Meadowfoam oil has received its name because of its resemblance, while in bloom, to the white foam blowing on the ocean.  When applied to the skin, it forms a moisture barrier and will assist the skin with preventing moisture loss.

Cedarwood essential oil comes from the Cedarwood tree which is native to North America and grows up to 100 feet and ages up to 1,000 years.  It has a soft, woody and “pencil-like” smell. Cedarwood essential oil has been in use as a mosquito and insect repellant for a long time. When used in vaporizers, it drives away mosquitoes, flies and other insects in a large area around the house. It is regularly sprinkled on pillows or sheets at night so mosquitoes and other similarly irritating bugs and pests are driven away while one sleeps.

Rosemary

Rosemary from our garden.

Lavender essential oil is extracted mostly from the flowers of the lavender plant, primarily through steam distillation.  The smell of lavender essential oil is potent for many types of bugs like mosquitoes, midges, and moths.

Rosemary essential oil is mostly extracted from the rosemary plant leaves.  It has antimicrobial and antiseptic qualities that make it beneficial in efforts to eliminate eczema, dermatitis, oily skin, and acne.

Clove essential oil comes from an evergreen tree which produces a flower bud that has numerous medicinal properties.  These health benefits can be attributed to its antimicrobial, antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral, aphrodisiac and stimulating properties.

Lavender

Lavender blooms.

Cinnamon essential oil is one of the most popular herbs for flavoring and medicinal uses and also a great mosquito repellent. Research has now proven that cinnamon oil is very effective in killing mosquito larvae. This research has paved the way for finding an environmentally safe solution for solving the global menace and disease-spreading capacity of mosquitoes.

It is important to note that the Cedarwood essential oil and Cinnamon essential oil are both very strong and potent.  It is recommended to avoid Cedarwood during pregnancy.  For that reason, we suggest you check with your doctor before using our Bug Be GONE Lotion Stick if you are pregnant or plan to use it on an infant.

The Bug Be GONE Lotion Stick is available all summer long.  It comes in a convenient 2 ounce twist top tube for $9.

Shopping always gets us in trouble…

the pink ladyDirty sinkM. GRACE and I did some shopping this week for the booth. We’d like to introduce you to “The Pink Lady” and ” The Old Dirty Sink”. The Pink Lady is a pink Maytag washing machine from the 1950s.  She will be visiting our booth as a display piece as the mood strikes her this summer.

The Old Dirty Sink is also from the 1950s and has already been cleaned up and earned her chance to become a permanent display fixture in the booth starting next Saturday.

This is a great time to remind everyone we will be at the Terre Haute Downtown Farmers Market tomorrow from 8a-noon. Come visit us – our new products include Cocoa Kisses Lip Chap, Gardeners Soap, Lavender and Thyme Soap and Good Clean Soap!
